Match.com Plans To Screen For Sex Offenders

In response to a pending court case (see: Match.com Sued Over Second Date Assault) Match.com has announced they will starting screening the folks using the dating site against the national sex offender registry.

NBCi4 reported that the president of Match.com hadn’t wanted to take such a drastic measure in the past because of issues with reliability, but because of new technological advances they’re going to move forward with the screening. Having said that, the president warned the system isn’t foolproof, so folks can’t assume they’re safe just because a computer program says they are.

There aren’t a lot of dating sites that screen their members for past sex offenses, although True.com has undertaken strict background checks on all their members for a number of years now, going so far as to prosecute members with criminal records or who prove to be married and looking.

What do you think? Should dating sites be legally responsible if anything happens to one of their members while on a date with a sex offender? Are you more inclined to use a dating site that screens their members?
