Career driven people often neglect to arrange their priorities correctly, and it’s little wonder why there are more single 20 and 30 something’s in this day and age than ever before. Let’s determine some ways for workaholics to keep their career, as well as finding time to stop and smell the roses.
1/ Are You A Workaholic? You may not recognize you have a problem, but if you stop and think about whether you are neglecting quality time with your friends and family in favor of work, then you should consider re-assessing your life choices. Have you just settled into a pattern of working endless hours? Have you given up on social opportunities due to past failures with relationships and have decided to throw yourself into work? Any of these scenarios are okay, for a while, however making your job the centre of your universe is an unhealthy choice.
2/ It’s About Priorities. It’s the oldest excuse in the book “I’ve been too busy to call you”. The thing is, if your priorities were in the correct order these kind of lame excuses would not be necessary, and who do you think you’re kidding? do you really think anyone actually considers this a believable reason to never hear from you? It’s really more of an insult to learn that your good mate can’t even put aside two minutes once every two weeks for a quick phone call to say “hello”.
3/ Look Where Other Busy Singles Hang Out? With an increasingly busy workload for many of us, the Internet is where men and women are shopping for companionship. Once you learn how to navigate around online dating sites, it can literally take just minutes to line up a couple of dates. Dating online is a sensible option for time poor singles. Online dating sites require members to complete a detailed self-analysis during the registration process. Use this opportunity to express what it is you hope to get out of life, but don’t make the mistake of making your online dating profile the focus of your career.
4/ Learn To Switch Off. Regardless of if your job is demanding, it’s imperative you learn to balance home and work commitments. Switching off from the daily grind during your date is something you need to get right if you plan on having a second date with the same person. Take heed; acknowledge things they talk about and react to them. Use the time you are with them and genuinely get to know him or her, rather than imagining what chores you need to attend to back at the office.
5) Start Growing Your Life Outside Of Work. If the majority of your acquaintances are where you work, you should look at changing this statistic, which applies tenfold if you rely entirely on dating people from work. Remember your old hobbies that once gave you inner satisfaction? Pick up your musical instrument you have not touched in years, start hitting the gym like you used to, go visit your Grandma – get out of the cycle of talking, breathing and living work because that isn’t ‘living’!!
