Dating Violence in Japan
I just read an article about a study on dating violence in Japan. It states that 50% of the men and women were subjected to physical or psychological violence over a relationship.
The study uncovered two significant issues. One was that the partner were easily annoyed leading up to the confrontation. And the other was not using the cell phone quicker to return email messages or calls.
However, there are two things I noticed about this study… it was done over the internet and the sample size was pretty small — less than 400 people.
So we don’t really know how significant this study is or whether or not dating violence is normal across the board with other countries…
But I do know this — in this world — I feel we are increasingly becoming more and more isolated within ourselves. Even though we are being subjected to more and more contact with others.
How can that be? I think for some reason, common courtesy and respect for yourself and others has been lost for many people.
And that is sad. So today, start with yourself. Be conscious of what you do and how you are perceived by others. Are you rude? Are you cutting conversation short? Are you listening? Are you tense and showing that on your face?
One of the most common fallacy of meeting someone new is placing the unrealistic expectation that that person is going to change how you feel about yourself.
That isn’t going to happen. YOU have to change yourself. I didn’t say it will be easy…
Did you know there is a book that has questions you can ask to get to know someone?
